Patrick Geary & Mary Ann Flannery

Patrick Joseph GEARY was born on 12 November 1866 in Fair Hill, Claddagh, Galway. He worked first as a stoker and then as an assistant engineer on ferries sailing from Galway to Inis Mor. He appeared in court a number of times, both as complainant and defendant, on one occasion against his mother. He died on 7 May 1943 at 5 FairHill Rd.

Mary Anne FLANNERY was born on 8 April 1871 in Middle Street, Galway and later lived in New Road, Galway. She was a housekeeper. She died in childbirth on 5 June 1916 in Fair Hill.

Patrick and Mary married on 30 December 1894 in St Joseph’s Church, Galway and had twelve children. The eleventh, Katherine, died at the age of three and it appears that there was not a live birth when Mary died in labour. They lived in a two-roomed house in Fairhill Road with a thatched roof, which also had access to a turf-house and a fowl-house. In 1919 they owned a red and white terrier.
