The following record is held in the Waterford County Archives, relating to tenants of the Lismore Estate, owned by the Duke of Devonshire
Tenant name: Conners, Michael
Tenant application book: Conners, Michael. St. Thomas Street. Wanting to give up house and go to America. Response; Gave £5 to take up house. 12 February 1849.
Townland: St. Thomas Street, Dungarvan
County: Waterford
There is some uncertainty about this information. It appears definite that Michael Connors received £5 to give up the tenancy in St Thomas Street. The 1851 Griffiths Valuation still shows him as the tenant, although this could simply mean that list had not yet been updated.
There is no corresponding immigration record for a Michael Connors from Waterford in 1849.
An alternative possibility is that Michael Connors had died by 1849 and this application refers to his son Michael, who would have been 19 at this point and subsequently emigrated to Wales.
