There is a record of Bridget’s admission to Woolaston House Workhouse Infirmary on February 6th 1914. At that time she was around 70 years and a widow. There is no specific information as to why she was admitted but she is classed as 4A for dietary purposes and this was apparently for women too infirm to work.
There is another entry a year later on July 6th, 1915 in the Discharge Register, where her reason for discharged is listed as “Dead” and noting, poignantly, that her last meal was breakfast.
Her death certificate, witnessed by her niece, gives the cause of death as Pthithis, now known as Tuberculosis.
